Joshua May, stage director

Joshua May, stage director, has directed productions, workshops, and scenes programs across the United States. His productions have incorporated innovative digital projection, interactive audience experiences, and sensory friendly productions. His recent directing work includes main stage and outreach productions of Alcina (Handel), Hansel & Gretel (Humperdinck), Little Red Riding Hood (Barab), and Captain Lovelock (Duke). He has directed opera outreach productions of Jack & the Beanstalk (Davies), Three Little Pigs (Davies), and Little Red Riding Hood (Barab) that have reached over 10,000 students across the state of Michigan. He has served on the directing team for opera scenes, Magic Flute To Go, and Three Billy Goats Gruff for the University of Connecticut Opera Studio. He has presented his work on opera outreach development and audition techniques for aria staging at the National Opera Association. In 2019, he will be directing main stage productions of Viardot’s Cendrillon and Ching’s Speed Dating Tonight. He has served as a stage director with the Schwob School of Muisc at Columbus State Univeristy, National Opera Association, University of Michigan-Flint, University Connecticut Opera Studio, Druid City Opera Workshop at the University of Alabama, and as an opera directing fellow at the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. He is an Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera Director at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University
